Cheers to a New Year!

Happy New Year's Day!

We've been enjoying a quiet, long weekend at home after traveling half of December (Hubs was only home 11 days in December since he had a work conference on top of everything else). It's done our souls good to be home, snuggling Penny, catching up on laundry and taking time to rest.

As I think about this new year and all the memories yet to be created, here are a few things I want to focus on.

My goals for 2019 are:
1. to make time for date nights
2. to be more creative
3. to take Penny on more adventures

While Christopher and I have date nights, we don't necessarily have a regular date night. As life only seems to get busier, now is the perfect time to start this good habit - investing time into our relationship, planning fun outings and enjoying time together. We've always loved playing tourist in our own backyard. There's always new restaurants to visit, movies to watch, museums to see, and hikes to take. This man is the love of my life and I can't wait to spend more time with him.
It's not always easy to be creative - it takes time, heart and energy. 2018 felt like a year to celebrate, a year of healing, of coming out of survival mode, of moving forward. As such, I was creative at times, but didn't always have the capacity to do as much as I wanted to. This year, I want to spend time scrapbooking, decorating the house for every possible season, making banners, creating an inviting balcony and arranging plants. It's time to get my craft space in order, organize supplies and pick up where I left off.
Over Christmas, we took Penny up to northern California with us to visit family. This was her first big adventure as a solo pup and she handled two long car rides, being in a new home and exploring the woods like a champ. We always knew she was calmer than our late, sweet Sheldon, but until recently, we had no idea just how mellow she actually is. This precious girl has been a silver lining for us - we're in a new chapter of dog ownership, one where we go on long walks and enjoy outdoor restaurants.

I asked Hubs what his goals were for the new year and here's his list:

1. to read more non-fiction
He has quite the collection of books piling up, both fiction and non, but wants to focus more on non-fiction ones this year. Some books on the agenda are "Leonardo da Vinci"by Walter Isaacson, "Failure Is Not an Option: Mission Control From Mercury to Apollo 13 and Beyond" by Gene Kranz and "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow.

2. build up our savings
As we think about the future and our growing family, we want to have more of a buffer for the unexpected. 2018 saw vet bills, car repairs and a lovely trip to Ireland. On the travel agenda is a trip to Portland to meet a friend's new baby and Tennessee to spend time with another friend.

3. learn a new coding language
I am constantly amazed by Christopher's technical knowledge and drive to continue learning. He is currently teaching a data science bootcamp at UCI, as well as thriving in his full time job as the Director of Data Science for Ease, Inc. He hasn't narrowed down which language he wants to learn yet, but has a few different options he is thinking over.

We hope this new year brings you peace and joy and the certainty that you are loved.
Cheers!
